These devices are designed with high resistance to vibration and electrical inteference for reliable valve-mounted performance. Mechanical and electrical components are designed to operate in harsh environments and are approved for use with various hazardous area ratings including ATEX, FM and CSA.

Selection Criteria

The Dresser Masoneilan 496 switches are used for indicating predetermined stroke positions for control valves. They can be connected to audible alarms or warning lights to signal valve or system malfunction. The 496 switch can also be fitted with a rotary potentiometer for continuous transmission of valve position throughout the full stroke cycle. Basic switches are single pole, double-throw, snap-acting devices. However, various configurations are available depending upon system set-up and associated monitoring equipment.

The 496 Series switches and transmitters are available in numerous electrical configurations and protection standards. Device protection features include weather-proofing, cleaned for oxygen environments, dust-tight design and certifications for explosion-proof and intrinsically safe to various standards. The 496 Series body and cover designs are anodized aluminum with epoxy painting with mainly stainless steel internal parts and Buna-N seals. Overall temperature range for the device is -65oF to +180oF (-50oC to +80oC).
